Prime Time

Evelyn, could you come here for a second? Which team do you play for?

Well, I’m a Peach.

Well I was just wonderin’ why you would throw home when we got a two-run lead. You let the tying run get on second base and we lost the lead because of you. Start using your head. That’s the lump that’s three feet above your ass.

Are you crying? Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There’s no crying! THERE’S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!

Why don’t you give her a break, Jimmy…

Oh, you zip it, Doris! Rogers Hornsby was my manager, and he called me a talking pile of pigshit. And that was when my parents drove all the way down from Michigan to see me play the game. And did I cry?

No, no, no.

Yeah! NO. And do you know why?

No…

Because there’s no crying in baseball. THERE’S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL! No crying!

I am given to understand there was a shocking display last night, but I’m afraid I didn’t watch it.  Oh, I’m talking about cheering for W, not the 4 – 0 blow out.

You see, the Ranger’s problem is that they are facing elimination and in front of the home crowd too.

Battle of the Aces- Lee and Lincecum.  7 – 11 the first time out.  I renew my prediction of Weapons of Mass Destruction because I’m just as convicted convinced as any Washington Pundit that if I throw enough shit there’s sure to be a pony in there somewhere.

Other things-

The overnights should be interesting, solid premiers on broadcast, also Monday Night Throwball on ESPNTexans @ Bolts (you know how to root).

Later-

Dave hosts Robert Downey Jr. and Elvis Costello and the Sugarcanes with Pete Thomas.  Jon has no identified guest, Stephen Jonathan Alter.  Double Alton, Curry and Stew.

BoondocksThe Passion of Reverend Ruckus (a must see excellent episode).

Congrats & nicely done Giants. I was 7 when you won the series the last time in 1954. I do remember because I had a pink t-shirt with your team logo on it.

There were no baseball teams west of the Rockies back then and all the games were played during the day.

On October 3 at the Polo Grounds the final game ending home run that was hit by Bobbie Thompson. It became known as the “Shot heard ‘Ruond the World”. The Giants won on that home run, 5 – 4, 2 games to 1, best of 3. Short and sweet but oh so sweet.

I remember my Dad was thrilled, he hated the Dodgers.

Now for tonight’s final count of Dirty Uniforms, Pitchers and Broken Bats.

Broken Bats goes to Texas with 4 to SF’s 3

Texas also wins the Dirty Uniform category with 4 and SF scoring none.

They tied with pitchers at 2 each.

My final thought on grooming. After watching the locker room interviews, Wilson’s heavy beard and Lincecum’s shoulder length scraggy hair were obviously lucky charms for the team. I can just see them next year looking more like ZZ Top.

This was fun. We’ll do it again

I was outside the Belvedere Castle late in the afternoon and there was a movie being shot in the tower. I spotted Julie Delpy up there then spotted Radioman  down below to get the straight dope. They are shooting Two Days in New York that Julie Delpy is both starring in and directing. So I figured I’ll just get a star shot while I’m there.

If there is one aspect of photography I’m not cut out for it’s Paparazzo. For about forty-five minutes that felt like days I pointed my camera up at the castle squinting through the viewfinder never once seeing the star. Five times I rested my eye and each time I did Julie Delpy looked down from the top of the castle. I’m probably not cut out for sieges either.

I never noticed but between the aggravation of piss poor timing and looking up at the castle on extreme telephoto in my tiny point and shoot viewfinder, my back got very tense and my neck went stiff. So I gave up and walked back to the car with some muscle in my mid-lumbar in a knot and my neck only hurting when I looked in any direction but up.

Then after walking about twenty blocks to my car I have a flat tire. A flat tire with a boot that is like a spare room to me. You should have seen the sidewalk by the time I got to the doughnut. Screw guns, a circular saw, scintilla, carpentry tools, electrical tools, user manuals for intelligent theatrical light, pyrotechnics, computer lighting boards, DMX code books, black clothing for onstage appearances, a suit for concert hall work and even a Nero jacket for “Contact.” By the time I got that spare out of the bottom of the trunk it looked like I’d been evicted from an apartment and because it is Manhattan, the whole time a lady in a car watched the entire operation because she wanted my parking spot.

I did all this with my back being out and was so happy to be reminded that on November first the heat comes up. Since getting home I’ve been curled up next to the radiator with “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”
