Didn’t See That Coming

Greenwald (of course)

This week’s guests-

The Daily Show

The Cobert Report

Ron Suskind is undoubtedly on to pitch his new book Life, Animated: A Story Of Sidekicks, Heroes, and Autism which is about his autistic son connecting to his family through Disney films, but it’s highly likely that they will get around to discussing Geithner’s new book Stress Test where Geithner frequently takes issue with Suskind’s 2011 tome Confidence Men which, if not unsparing, is at least mildly critical of Geithner and the Obama Administration’s policies during and after the Crash of 2008.

In my opinion it did not go nearly far enough.

Dolly Parton is, well… Dolly Parton.

Like most ‘feminist’ movies of the 70s and early 80s what surprises me is just how many sexist stereotypes it perpetuates, though as a student of ‘Tween sitcoms and dramas of current vintage (especially the Disney ones) I suppose I shouldn’t be.  While they’re remarkably open to inter-racial relationships females are almost universally portrayed as smart, but boy obsessed and fashion conscious followers.  Among the few characters I admire are Sam Puckett and Jade West (both from Nickelodeon and unapologetically strong leaders) and Hermione Granger (and she’s a little squishy as a feminist role model).

‘Twas not always thus.  Just to name three Ellen Ripley (in Aliens), Sarah Connor (in T2), and Dottie Hinson (in A League of Their Own).

You know what I would like?  To see a day when women are treated just like one of the guys and not objects of sexual dominance and desire.  This is all cultural folks, studies that show a preference for dolls or trucks are just as biased as Charles Murray’s intelligence tests and equally indicative of unconscious sexism and male privilege.  Despite what Billy Crystal says in When Harry Met Sally these types of relationships are not only possible, they make up the majority of my interactions with women throughout my life.

with a systemic viral infection, passed out in the bathroom (yes, drop your blood pressure, stand up, you pass out. duh). The blood clot was not life threatening, she was in the hospital 3 days and sent home with strict instructions to rest. The glasses were because of residual double vision from the concussion. I’d like to see Rove’s medical degeree
