“Yes, I DO Want To Take Your Guns Away!”

That is what Samantha Bee, host of the TBS show “Full Frontal,” said last night in a righteous rant about the massacre in Orlando, Florida early Sunday morning and I’m with her. There is no reason for any civilian to own an Ar-15 or any weapon similar to it.

“Well, here we are,” Bee began. “Now, after a massacre, the standard operating procedure is that you stand on stage and deliver some well-meaning words about how we will get through this together. How love wins, how love conquers hate. And that is great, that is beautiful. But you know what? Fuck it! I am too angry for that. Love does not win, unless we start loving each other enough to fix our fucking problems.” [..]

“We can’t constitutionally get rid of all guns, but can’t we get semiautomatic assault rifles out of the hands of civilians?” she asked. “‘Sam Bee wants to take your guns away!’ Yes — the ones that mow down a roomful of people in seconds. Yes, I do want to take those guns away.”

“These high-capacity penis substitutes are a shitty choice for hunting and home protection, but perfect for portable mayhem,” Bee added.

There is, ultimately, no shortage of people eager to commit these atrocities, said Bee, and “we are making it far too easy for their derangement to kill us.” As a nation, the United States needs to “find the political will to reject a mass shooting per day as the price of freedom,” she stressed.

An AR-15 is not a hunting rifle, unless you are hunting humans. Here is what you need to know about the AR_15

As Eugene Robinson explained in his Washington Post opinion, it is not unconstitutional to ban these weapons or to keep any gun out of the hands of people who are criminals.

An Islamic State sympathizer was able to go into a gun store days or weeks ago and buy both a pistol and an AR-15-style semiautomatic assault rifle, which he used to kill 49 men and women at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Had he been armed with the pistol alone, he still would have killed people — but not so many. Keeping military-grade combat weapons out of the hands of maniacs should not be a controversial idea.

The Second Amendment enshrines the right to keep and bear arms, and the Supreme Court has ruled that this is an individual right, not a collective one. The court has made clear, however, that this does not preclude reasonable gun control measures. Not all weapons must be considered suitable for private hands.

He has a clear message for the Bundy Bunch and their supporters, too.

No hunter needs an AR-15 to bring down a deer. None of us needs such a weapon to defend our families against intruders. And for those who believe assault rifles offer protection against a hypothetical tyrannical government — or who perhaps consider the present government tyrannical — I have sobering news: If and when the black helicopters come, they will be accompanied by tanks.

The presumptive Republican nominee has insinuated that President Barack Obama is in cahoots with radical terrorists. He’s wrong. It’s the NRA and congress who refuse to regulate guns no matter how sensible the regulation. The terrorists are pleased.

The Second Amendment is here to stay but there is no reason, other than money from the NRA, that congress should not reinstate the ban on this style of weapon. So, yes, I want to take away your AR-15.
