Trump Suggests A Second Amendment Solution To Clinton Presidency

Today in an appearance in South Carolina, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump suggested to the crowd that “the Second Amendment people” might be the only ones who can take action against a Clinton presidency.

In a speech at the University of North Carolina, Trump suggested gun owners could take Clinton out in order to prevent her appointing judges to the Supreme Court.

“If she gets to pick her judges,” Trump said, “nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is.”

The mere suggestion that Hillary Clinton should be shot to end her presidency would get Joe/Jane Schmo detained by the Secret Service, as former NSA and CIA Director Ret. Gen. Michael Hayden said in his comments to CNN’s Jake Tapper:

HAYDEN: Well, let me say if someone else said that outside of the hall, he’d be in the back of a police wagon now, with the Secret Service questioning him.

[…]

HAYDEN: I used to tell my seniors at the CIA, you get to a certain point in this business,

you’re not just responsible for what you say, you are responsible for what people hear.

Make no mistake this is a serious threat. Democrats are, naturally, incensed.

Like Charlie Pierce asks, I want to know where is the Republican leadership and the elite press?

You know, The Line, the one that He, Trump has to cross before the entire Republican Party, not to mention a good portion of the human race, finds him too revolting for their delicate stomachs? What say you, Paul Ryan? Is that the line? John McCain? Mitch McConnell? All you clowns in the tricorns and the Watering The Tree Of Liberty tank tops? What say you all? Do you stand by this?

How about the elite political press? Is this enough to push you over the line to admitting every day in your coverage that this is not a normal election because the Republican Party has nominated a public sociopath for President of the United States?

This man is mentally unstable and as Josh Marshall points out,

For Donald Trump, life is about domination. There are dominators and the dominated. Right now he’s being dominated, beaten, humiliated. That may be fun to watch if you’re a Democrat. It’s not fun for him. That psychic injury will drive escalating reactions.

I’ll go further, Donald Trump is a sociopath and a danger to the United States and democracy.

How far over the line is too far? At this point Trump has crossed so many lines from the treasonous suggestion that Russia hack Secretary Clinton’s e-mails to thwart her election to outright calling for violence at his rallies that the line is barely visible in the horizon on a clear day. This is not political speech, it is calling for the assassination of a political candidate.
