Puerto Rico: Americans Are Dying. Who’s In Charge Here?

It is over three weeks since category 5 Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. The death toll has risen to 45, and 89% of the island is still without electricity. Drinkable water is a major issue with nearly 35% of the population without potable water and drinking water that is being obtained from hazardous waste sites. The US government has provided only 200,00 meals per day to a population of over 2 million. Americans are dying because of the incompetence of the Trump administration that even dwarfs G. W. Bush’s response to Hurricane Katrina. Heck of a job, Donnie.

The Department of Homeland Security has been vacant since General John Kelly became Trump’s chief of staff. According to NBC News, Gen. Kelly’s long time trusted aide Kirtjen Nielson is to be nominated to take the reigns.

Americans are dying. After three weeks, who is in charge of this catastrophe?
Then this morning there was this report in The Guardian about Trump’s latest tweets:

In a series of tweets sent on Thursday morning, Trump said “We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. Forever!”

The president preceded this with tweets that stated “Electric and all infrastructure was disaster before hurricanes” in Puerto Rico and quoted a TV host who said of the territory that “a financial crisis looms largely of their own making”.

What does he care? They’re only brown people.
