Rant of the Week: Lewis Black – How to Honor Veterans

It’s 99 years since the war to end all wars ended on November 11, 1917 on a rail car in in the forest of Compiègne, France. Veterans Day, known originally Armistice Day, which began in 1919 and became a legal holiday in 1938. It was after WW2 when a campaign was started to change the name of the holiday to Veterans Day to honor all American veterans of all wars, living and dead. The campaign led to President Dwight Eisenhower signing a law in 1954 to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day.

In a rant this week on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” comedian and all round curmudgeon, Lewis Black breaks down how politicians shower veterans with sanctimonious praise while also denying them adequate health care and creating endless military conflicts.
