Oscars: The 88th Academy Awards

There has been a huuuuuge amount of criticism of Hollywood and the academy of Arts and Sciences for the lack of diversity in its industry. Taking the biggest hit in the media for the “whitewashing” are this years Oscars for its lack of minority nominees. It is two years since the Academy nominated a black actor. Many prominent black actors are boycotting tonights’s presentations a#OscarsSoWhite has been trending on Twitter. No one points out better how ridiculous it is that “this is still a thing” than the host of “Last Week Tonight,” John Oliver.

This year’s Oscar host Chris Rock has his work cut out for him. If anyone could pull this off, it’s Chris. who took to Twitter with the hashtag #blackoout and posting a static filled video

If you’re not out protesting with Al Sharpton or just boycotting by not watching, you can watch the show on ABC at 8:30 ET and find a list of all the nominees and, eventually the winners, here

I’ll be watching wearing my new sweats and blue suede sequinned pumps with a pitcher of martinis and a bowl of popcorn sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.

  1. #OscarsSoWhite

Not that I care mind you being a child of privilege and normative in every way I don’t invent for myself, just that it’s the only night each year I indulge my inherent misogyny (hey, I have one, just not 11 inches) and judge people based solely on their appearance.

It’s easy if you’re a guy, slap on a suit and tie and nobody knows you’re an ax murderer.
