NCAA Women’s Tournament 2016: Regional Semi-Finals (Round of 16) Day 2

U – Conn Husky, symbol of might to the foe.
Fight, fight Connecticut, It’s vict’ry, Let’s go.

Connecticut U – Conn Husky,
vict’ry again for the White and Blue

So go – go – go Connecticut, Connecticut U.
C – O – N – N – E – C – T – I – C – U – T
Connecticut, Connecticut Husky, Connecticut Husky
Connecticut C – O – N – N – U! Fight!

Wait. Did I mention I’m a huge Husky fan? Oh. Right.

See, the thing about Geno’s teams is that they may not always win, but they’re very good and remarkably consistent.

I was watching Liv and Maddie (both played by Dove Cameron who is in real life about 5′ 2″) the other day and Maddie (Captain of the Wisconsin State Champion Women’s Basketball Team) is agonizing over which College scholarship to accept. The list includes UConn.

Look, this is fictional. There are lots of High School Point Guards who are very talented and much taller than 5′ 2″ (only 5′ 10″ myself) who would sell their souls for an offer like that. In the end she makes the safe and viewer friendly choice, University of Wisconsin (Beloit) which doesn’t exist. Beloit College, which does exist, is a Division III school. Of course her Dad is the Coach and she loves him.

Geno is not lovable. He’s actually pretty much an asshole. Even when they win the first question is- “So, why did this (mistake) happen?” He has that George Steinbrenner ‘they should win every game, that’s what I’m paying for’ attitude. His teams practice against the Men’s team and kick their asses.

He’s also smart. A letter from UConn is a golden ticket to winning seasons and League and National Championships. He has built a program, not a dependency on a miracle player. There are people riding the bench who are as good as anyone except the ones he puts on the floor.

And I suppose that’s a reason some choose not-UConn. You want to play, not practice.

They could go down today, we’ve seen every #1 seed so far drop. They are certainly the target of every would be every year, but there is no reason to suppose that things are going to change for a very long time.

I investigated getting tickets for the Regional Finals, they’re not that expensive and they’re in Connecticut where no place is more than 90 minutes from Stars Hollow, but I didn’t think of it soon enough.

You buy them blind, you don’t know who will make it through, but I think UConn is a good bet for next year.
