So, Syracuse. If you are a long time reader you know that I went there for a while, compared to UConn it was a dream. Went to school nights, worked as a Swimming Teacher for learning disabled kids by day. Summers, because I was full time at one of the toughest jobs they had, I got to work at Nottingham, a beautiful Olympic sized facility with a roof that opened, a 3 Meter Board (Lifeguards only please), and a full water polo court. I worked from 12 to 9 which left the nights free for partying and I could sleep in every day. At my teaching gig we all had season passes to Greek Peak and in season (which came early and left late) we’d go skiing between 1 and 3 times a week.
Summers were also when my Sister would visit. She had a job at a sandwich shop and bitterly resented that I got to sleep in later than she did. Of course she got off earlier and would come by the pool and watch the water polo team practice. I usually let her take the car and would walk to work, it was only a mile or two and we’d go out together after she picked me up.
I had a great off campus apartment which was huge all to myself except when my Sister was visiting. My neighbor kept lizards and snakes and tarantulas as pets but other than that he was pretty cool and some nights in the fall and spring when it wasn’t too cold we’d crawl through our windows to the roof of the porch and split a six pack.
Do I expect them to win? It would be nice if they did, but no. I will say that I watched the last game and I saw something I never expected to see in my life- Syracuse making Free Throws. When I last focused on a Boeheim team they hadn’t made a Foul Shot in 30 years, so that was quite a shock.
In the other game I’m torn. As much as I hate Notre Dame I think I hate the Tarheels just a little bit more. Villanova can handle the Irish, North Carolina I’m not so sure.
Tonight picks the East and Midwest Regional Champions who will meet in the National Championship Semi-Final(Round of 4) on April 2nd (Saturday) in Houston.
