The Daily Late Nightly Show (Jessica Williams Leaves The Daily Show)

It’s true. Williams is 26 years old and has been with the show for 4 years. She’s leaving to develop her own show at Comedy Central “about somebody in their 20s who has all these social ideas, but still does not have it together.”

“I know that often for me, as a black woman of color, I feel like I’m supposed to represent these ideals and values that I was taught as a young lady,” she explained. “Like I’m supposed to carry myself in a special type of way, but oftentimes I’m, like… I’m still in my 20s, and still kind of a mess.”

Also to pursue her standup career which is never a good sign, a mere hair’s breadth away from the dreaded “creative differences”.

But it’s not a good sign for Trevor, who has seen viewership decline 37% since he took over and this in a political comedy rich environment.

After Noah took over the show from Jon Stewart last year, she was one of the only holdovers to usher in the new era. Williams’ departure is another sign that things are shaky at the former bastion of late-night political comedy.

The critics have turned on the show as well, with many pieces popping up about how the show has lost its edge. It’s also lost its buzz. With Stewart behind the desk, even non-viewers would see some of his better rants and take downs in videos featured in their Facebook or Twitter feeds. That isn’t happening anymore.

Unlike the author of that piece I recall that Williams said the offer was made but she didn’t feel up to the task and it is a grind, over 150 new shows a year.

But they are right that Trevor seems out of sync with his audience and the United States political scene, and if you hated Jon’s “both siderism” Noah has that in Spades. He is good at the International stuff, but he’s even more Center than Stewart and his interviews suck worse (something I didn’t think was possible).

Last night is a perfect example. He did an excellent piece about Iceland’s European Cup football win and a meh one about the Texas Abortion ruling and then the corresondents took over, indicating that the Producers may be deciding to limit his role.

I’m not calling for anything except change and I hope he develops but he may have less time than you think.
