Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell? Unconstitutional!

Umm… breaking.

This is a Federal Court ruling in the 9th Circuit on an injunction sought by the Log Cabin Republicans, but it applies nationwide.

Judge Virginia Phillips ruled on First Amendment grounds (Free Speech and Assembly) and cited a “direct and deleterious effect” on the military.

So Barack- put up or shut up about your “fierce advocacy”.

Clap Louder! LOUDER!!!

Three posts and a video from Greg Sargent @ Plum Line.

10:34 AM Voters aren’t listening to Dem message about GOP and Bush

What if voters are simply not buying the central Dem message that a vote for the GOP is a vote to return to the Bush policies that ran the economy into the ground? What if the GOP has already achieved separation from the former president?

There are still more than two months to go until election day. Perhaps voters will grow more receptive to the Dem claim that the GOP wants nothing more than a return to Bush policies once they begin focusing harder on the choice before them. But for now, the data clearly shows the public is not listening to the core Dem message.

11:57 AM Axelrod: Voters aren’t (yet) buying our Bush message

Now this thesis is being confirmed by none other than White House senior adviser David Axelrod, who  acknowledges to Sam Stein that Dems have failed to communicate this message adequately:

Perhaps this is where we have been failing to communicate,” said Axelrod. “[A] large number of people [don’t] believe that a Republican Congress would go back to the policies of George W. Bush, even though their own leaders have said as much in public. Pete Sessions said we want to go back to the same exact agenda that was there before this president took office. So our job in the next eight weeks is to make sure that people understand that, that they understand the stakes.

2:13 PM David Plouffe to Dems: Don’t despair, get to work!

Thanks to his work as the architect of Barack Obama’s stunning victory in 2008, few political strategists command the respect of the Dem rank and file to the degree  David Plouffe does.

So Plouffe is now trying to buck up despondent Dems by starring in a new video, to be emailed out to supporters by Obama’s political operation, telling them that all is not lost and that Dems can do far better this fall than the pundits are predicting — if they get to work:

(W)hat’s also interesting is Plouffe’s insistence that rank and file Dems understand that finding a way to muster up some enthusiasm may be the difference between winning and losing…

So you know what to do, otherwise Tinkerbell WILL DIE!!!!

‘Professional’ Liberals

Folks, I’ve never made a dime out of blogging.  Sure I’m scrambling like hell to set up some sources of revenue for this site because I want to create an endowment that will freeze your photons forever, but at $15 bucks a month I can skip the sixpacks (I don’t always drink beer, but when I do…).

You’ll pry my Mets cable package out of my cold, dead hands.

Jerome Armstrong is not like that.  He’s a paid pollitical consultant and expects a check to pay his bills and I don’t begrudge him.  I in fact applaud his bravery despite that to make observations like this-

The promise of a primary for Obama

by Jerome Armstrong, Thu Aug 26, 2010 at 01:48:37 AM EDT

That Obama will give us enduring war in Afghanistan beyond July 2011 seems a given. Will it come on the heels of his buckling to the Republican passage of the permanent Bush Tax cut package for millionaires?

And when I say lose the Party, I mean explicitly that he will face a Democratic primary in 2012, and hopefully, denied the nomination.

Some of you still might see this as far-fetched. But watch and see how losing 50 seats, setting the Democrats back below 200 in the House, has a way of changing the perception.

To which I’ll add just wait until the Catfood Commission reports.

So bmaz is off the bus.

Obama’s Relentless Abandonment of Progressive Nominees

By: bmaz Saturday August 7, 2010 8:37 pm

Now if you listened to, and read Obama, and paid attention, you knew he was a centrist who worked by increment, compromise and seeking consensus as opposed to a liberal beacon that would take the country in a new and markedly different direction. Again, that said, the liberals and progressives who served as the ground force, heart and soul of Obama’s candidacy and election had every right to believe he would would at least include them at his table and utilize their talents in his Administration and appointments. There was an implicit deal made in this regard, and Obama purchased on it to his wild success. Now he has defaulted.

Maybe the pressure will get to the Obama White House and Warren will get the post she deserves and would be perfect for; but don’t count on it because Obama, Geithner, Summers, Rahm and the boys on the Obama bus just do not want her. And they didn’t want Christine Romer either, so they let the misogynistic, consistently wrong about everything he touches, Larry Summers push her out. It is becoming a broken record with this White House.

Some of the still starry eyed Obama fan boys who care about Liu and Chen (and both are incredibly excellent and worthy nominees) probably still think Obama will renominate them. But even if he did, why in the world would anybody believe it to be anything other than a ruse to get their support leading up to the fall election? Obama renominated Dawn Johnsen and then hung her out to dry twisting in the wind until finally ending the charade. It was a charade to sucker progressives, and there is no reason to believe he will not do it again. There is a track record with this White House, and it is not a good one; in fact, it is downright pathetic.

Maybe progressives ought to be considering someone like Elizabeth Warren for a much higher office than head of CFPB; or they can continue to be treated as “f**cking ret*rds” by the current denizens of the White House.
