Farewell.  We hardly used you.

Who needs therapy?

The real news, as well as the 4 (!) part web exclusive extended interview with the Big Dog and this week’s guests below.

Bill Clinton

This week’s guests-

The Daily Show

The Colbert Report

Jenny Nordberg is going to talk about the practice of bacha posh and her new book(s?) The Underground Girls Of Kabul: The Hidden Lives of Afghan Girls Disguised as Boys and The Underground Girls of Kabul: In Search of a Hidden Resistance in Afghanistan.  As the titles suggest this is not uncommon in Afghanistan so young women can be protected from violence and receive an education in what is, even after 13 years of U.S. occupation, an extremely sexist and patriarchal society especially in some areas and among some ethnic groups.

She is not without other journalistic credentials, from Good Reads

Together with The (New York) Times’ investigative unit, Nordberg previously worked on projects such as an examination of the American freight railroad system; a series that won the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting, and U.S. efforts at exporting democracy to Haiti.

She has also produced and written several documentaries for American television, about Iraqi refugees, Pakistan’s nuclear proliferation and the impact of the global financial crisis in Europe.

In Sweden, Nordberg was a member of the first investigative team at Swedish Broadcasting’s national radio division, where she supervised projects on terrorism and politics. Nordberg has won awards from Investigative Reporters and Editors, The Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and Guldspaden; Sweden’s premier investigative journalism award.

Lest you think this a distinctly Islamic practice allow me to draw your attention to Yentl and this bit of Harry Potter fan fiction (though the author of the Crooks & Liars review claims Harry doesn’t even live under the stairs anymore when he quite clearly does in the excerpt).

Chapter 1 introduces us to poor Harry, who doesn’t live under the stairs and is inexplicably permitted to answer the door by his evil, atheist, Dawkins-loving Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon.

Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Harry Potter who lived under the stairs in a house on Privet Drive with his aunt and uncle.

Tweedy is a new group featuring Jeff Tweedy (who also performs with Wilco) and his son Spencer.  Jeff is a much sought after session musician and producer and during several solo tours has mostly worked acoustically which is what you should expect from tonight’s musical segment.

Talk amongst yourselves.
