The Daily Show (No Hero)

Below the real news and next week’s guests.

Well, some of them.

Next Week’s guests-

The Daily Show

Now I’d like to share Larry Wilmore’s guests with you, but I don’t find them posted anywhere, even at Comedy Central.  It seems that the format will be very Daily Show-like with the addition (or substitution) of a panel for Jon’s monologue.  It’s all still rather nebulous at this point so I guess we’ll just have to wait until Monday to see.

Sienna Miller will be on to talk about her role in American Sniper.  While the film has won some critical acclaim it’s mostly from the same jingoistic neocon chickenhawks and keyboard commandos that liked The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.  It’s certainly no Deer Hunter and totally ignores Chris Kyle’s narcissistic self aggrandizement and pro-gun anti-Muslim political beliefs.  Typical of the praise is this from Kyle Smith of the New York Post– “After 40 years of Hollywood counterpropaganda telling us war is necessarily corrupting and malign, its ablest practitioners thugs, loons or victims, American Sniper nobly presents the case for the other side.”  On the other hand Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly says, “The film’s just a repetition of context-free combat missions and one-dimensional targets.”

The Chris Kyle character is a thug and a loon who jeopardises his mission and his team in pursuit of personal glory.  Instead of waiting for reinforcements as ordered, he takes the shot and turns things into a bloody fiasco and a tactical loss, just the kind of “hero” we should be celebrating.

In any event that this film got Oscar nominations instead of Selma says everything that needs to be said about how white, old, male, and conservative (not liberal) the Academy voters are.  Needless to say if I ever watch this piece of crap it will be by accident and I’ll switch to something useful like Girl Meets World as soon as I figure it out.
