Step right up and greet the Mets!
Bring your kiddies, bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
Because the Mets are really sockin’ the ball;
Knocking those home runs over the wall!
East side, West side,
Everybody’s coming down
To meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!
Where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
Oh, they’re hollerin’ and cheerin’
And they’re jumpin’ in their seats,
Where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
All the fans are true to the orange and blue,
So hurry up and come on down –
’cause we’ve got ourselves a ball club,
The Mets of New York town!
And let ’em know your rootin’ in the stand!
Come on and MEET THE METS, MEET THE METS,
Step right up and greet the Mets!
Bring your kiddies, bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
Because the Mets are really sockin’ the ball;
Knocking those home runs over the wall!
East side, West side,
Everybody’s coming down
To meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!
Of New York town!
Look, there’s simply no use pretending the Metropolitans are not my team, have been since ’62. Moreover the Giants are traitors who abandoned the Polo Grounds for California just like the Dodgers. A Big Apple single finger salute to both of yah!
Now that’s out of the way let me say it’s a freaking miracle the Metropolitans are in the Playoffs at all. This season has been nothing but injuries, Syndergaard and Colon are about the only starters who made it through and things have been no better in the field. I’m quite impressed, their depth is even deeper than I thought, though, being the Metropolitans, only about 50% of their trades (of which there should be many during the off season, you can’t play them all) will work out and at that they’ll be doing better than the Yankees who’ve never met a broken down hack in the terminal stages of his career that they wouldn’t sell their soul and best prospect to get and then sign to a wildly overpriced long term contract (Sabathia, ARod).
I think they can win tonight, but I don’t see how they survive the Cubs unless the curse kicks in.
They’ll be pitching the aforementioned Noah Syndergaard (R, 14 – 9, 2.60 ERA) against the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner (L, 15 – 9, 2.74 ERA).
The bad news is Bumgarner who is a heck of a pitcher and better in the Playoffs, also the Giants have recent Wild Card experience (it’s like a game 5 or 7 and you can’t leave anything in the dugout) as well as lots of other Playoff success. This is the second time ever the Metropolitans have been in two years running.
The good news is that the Giants tanked in the last third of the season and the Metropolitans had the best record in Baseball. There’s a lot to be said for getting hot at the right time. Both teams have 87 – 75 records, the Metropolitans won the season series 4 – 3. Syndergaard had extra rest, which he likes.
Hopefully it will be a blowout, or at least a victory, for the Metropolitans as I’d like to see my team play at least 3 more times. Because of the lateness of the games I’m suspending The Daily Late Show except on days without night games (which frequently happens, especially if the series are short).
