Fever

Turn Blue

there is smoke. And in that smoke, from this day forward, my people will crouch and conspire and plot and plan for the inevitable day of Man’s downfall – the day when he finally and self-destructively turns his weapons against his own kind. The day of the writing in the sky, when your cities lie buried under radioactive rubble! When the sea is a dead sea, and the land is a wasteland out of which I will lead my people from their captivity! And we will build our own cities in which there will be no place for humans except to serve our ends! And we shall found our own armies, our own religion, our own dynasty! And that day is upon you… now!

So, let me tell you about Blondie.  It was the early 80s and I was in Boston (a town I know rather better than people may think) studying journalism (surprise you?  It shouldn’t) and I was walking down to Kenmore Square and I heard something on a street boom box and I was floored.

Real music!

Now I know that some may say it had always continued even during the the dark (and unlamented) days of Disco but this was the first for me in years.

It was Heart of Glass.

Blondie and Supertramp are my sound track for that period of my life and you can argue they weren’t the best bands but they certainly presaged my interest in Technopop and Alternative Rock.

Keri Russell will ether be talking about her TV work in The Americans as Elizabeth Jennings or her new film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed: everything else is public relations.- Eric Blair
