Seriously. Don’t do it unless you really want to.
It is not your duty. You are not obligated to vote because THE TROOPS!!!
Every year or two, the political parties play a Game of Thrones. They choose the candidates and the voters and then spend millions of dollars convincing us that the world will come to fucking end if the other team wins. If they can’t inspire you to vote because their candidates are promising, they will scare the crap out of you by pointing out the other guy is the next Hitler. For those who stopped being afraid of the team, they have another argument: It’s your duty.
That’s right. If you don’t show up and pull the lever for the lesser of the two evils, many of whom were coronated or bought their party’s nomination and may have even chosen their own voters. Yes, I know that the other guys also gerrymander legislative districts, but that doesn’t make it any more undemocratic.
Anyway, if you don’t show up and vote for a candidate you don’t like, who has no interest in following through on his/her promises, who only climbed to the top via a corrupt and undemocratic process, it is YOU, not the assholes who created this shit show, who is unpatriotic and ignoring your “civic duty”?
FUCK. THAT. SHIT.
And while we’re at it, fuck this diary from the Great Orange Politico (GOP).
Don’t try to shove a shit sandwich down my throat and then get pissed at me when I don’t swallow. Democrats don’t lose because the voters suck. Democrats lose because Democrats suck. Maybe if Democratic politicians stopped governing like assholes, left-leaning voters would turn up at the polls. Oh no, that can’t be it. It can’t be the politicians. It has to be the apathetic voters who are too stupid to know what is best for them.
Put yourselves in the shoes of the Democratic establishment. If the voters have pledged that they will pull the lever for you NO MATTER WHAT, why should you do anything other than pander and remind them how evil the Republicans are? Put another way, would you begin a relationship by pledging your unconditional support and loyalty to your partner, even if s/he lies to and cheats on you?
Stop the cycle. Sleep in. Don’t vote.
That said, if you really want to vote, go ahead. I won’t think less of you for it. Unlike the DNC thought police, I’m perfectly happy with people who disagree with me. Just know that canned lines like “If you don’t vote, don’t complain” don’t go over well with me.
ek hornbeck did not make me add this last paragraph. Really.

but that’d be giving in to blackmail.
One of the reasons I always thought Kos was a moron was the “more and better” bullshit.
Common sense is this. If they were better, there would be more.
More blue dog dems means more republican-lite shit policies complete with bonus bipartisan stink on them.
level local races – the ones where it does make a diff, and down here, we need all the moderation we can get on a local level to keep the nuts from having a free hand… i mean, i’m in LA, the stupid is strong down here and my Parish needs some at least adult supervision…
so yeah, i’m gonna vote… but not for the major parties on the upper levels… fuck that noise…

Even for a die-hard, going to the polls is a waste of time in my precinct.
Who am I kidding. I’m a misogynistic, woman threatening racist, and an authoritarian asshole to boot!
Tomorrow at 2 pm.
