Breakfast Tune: Sean Lennon at Occupy Wall St, Oct 23, 2011 (Day 37) cover Madonna’s Material Girl
Recorded October 23, 2011, 6pm. Sean Lennon, his girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl, Rufus Wainwright, Dustin Hamman, and others perform an impromptu cover of “Material Girl” by Madonna ….but not until Josh Fox of the film “Gasland” talks to the crowd about hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking”. They dedicate the song to Ben Bernanke, and Hank Paulson.
Seemed they picked this song only because of the verse, “Living in a material world” which they repeat over, and over again.

AT&T’s ‘extraordinary, decades-long’ relationship with NSA – report
Martin Pengelly, The Guardian
…Citing newly disclosed NSA documents dating from 2003 to 2013, the New York Times said in a story published with ProPublica that AT&T was described as “highly collaborative” with an “extreme willingness to help” with government internet surveillance.
…
The new documents show that AT&T gave the NSA access to “billions of emails as they have flowed across its domestic networks”, the Times and ProPublica said. The reports also said AT&T provided “technical assistance” in “wiretapping all internet communications at the United Nations headquarters” in New York City. The documents also show that the NSA’s budget for its relationship with AT&T was twice as large as that of the next-largest such programme, and that the company placed surveillance equipment in 17 of its US internet hubs. …
Hundreds evacuated in Ecuador amid volcanic activity
Wire services
Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa declared a state of emergency Saturday over increasing activity in the Cotopaxi volcano near the capital of Quito, and officials evacuated a few hundred people as a precaution. “We declare a state of emergency due to the unusual activity of Mount Cotopaxi,” Correa said during his weekly Saturday address. “God willing, everything will go well and the volcano will not erupt.”
…
Eruptions beginning Friday have shot ash more than two miles into the sky, spreading fine gray powder over roads, homes and cars in the region as far as the capital 30 miles to the north. Presidential legal secretary Alexis Mera said further ash explosions and some pyroclastic flows on the volcano’s western slopes Saturday led officials to evacuate some nearby villages.
…
Cotopaxi is considered one of the world’s most dangerous volcanoes due to a glacial cover that makes it prone to fast-moving volcanic rock and mudflows, known as lahares. The 19,600-foot snow-capped volcano also is close to the heavily populated area around Quito. It last had a major eruption in 1877. …
‘Our Central American spring’: protesters demand an end to decades of corruption
Sibylla Brodzinsky, The Guardian
As the sky dims over the Honduran capital, the streets are ablaze with the flames of thousands of torches, each one carried by a citizen outraged by the entrenched corruption and impunity in this Central American country.
Though the light from the bamboo torches gives the protest a festive air, the message the protesters are sending is serious. One handmade sign reads “The corrupt have ripped apart my country.” Another says: “Enough is enough.”
It is a scene that has been repeated every Friday evening for nearly three months, since the government party was linked to a fraud and graft scheme that nearly bled the national health service dry. …

Something to Think about over Coffee Prozac:
Couple who took pet snake for swim in river say it vanished
DANVILLE, Pa. (AP) – A couple who took their nearly 5-foot boa constrictor for a swim in a Pennsylvania river say the pet slipped away and they’re concerned about its welfare.
The Bloomsburg Press Enterprise reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/1JfL8XN ) that Kolby and Zachary Latranyi had been swimming with the snake named Leyla last weekend in the Susquehanna (suhs-kwuh-HAN’-uh) River. The Latranyis say the red-tailed boa was shedding, so the swim was designed to help it remove material from its scales.
They say Zachary Latranyi was on shore with the snake wrapped around his shoulders when he dozed off, never noticing that Leyla had slithered away.
They’ve been back to the riverside several times, but so far haven’t turned up the missing reptile.
Leyla is described as brown with rust-colored spots and “very friendly.”
