Well, that was slightly surprising. Kershaw had a terrible game and got chased with 101 pitches and 3 runs scored in the 5th. The Dodgers (92 – 71) Bullpen was up to the task however and shut out the Nationals (95 – 68) for the final 4. The Nationals contributed to their own problems with Danny Espinosa Striking Out in critical situations with runners on base and Daniel Murphy had an egregious base running error on an attempted steal (to be fair he’s coming back from an injury and might have made it earlier in the season).
Scherzer was even worse, falling behind 4 – 0 before the end of the 3rd Inning. After that it was simply a matter of hanging on to the lead for the Dodgers
Friday’s Game
Top 1st- Solo Shot. Dodgers 1 – 0.
Top 3rd- Leadoff Single. Sacrifice. RBI Single, Dodgers 2 – 0. 2 RBI HR, Dodgers 4 – 0.
Bottom 3rd- Double. Walk. Double Steal, Runners at 2nd and 3rd. 2 RBI Single, Dodgers 4 – 2.
Bottom 4th- Leadoff Double. Sacrifice. RBI Sacrifice, Dodgers 4 – 3 Final.
Dodgers lead series 1 – 0.
Also Friday we saw the Red Sox and Rangers slip to 2 – 0 Series deficits. There is no denying that’s a dire situation in a 5 game series because it puts you only 1 loss away from elimination. For the Nationals and Giants it’s a position they want to avoid with a win today.
The Dodgers will be sending Rich Hill (L, 12 – 5, 2.12 ERA) against the Nationals’ Tanner Roark (R, 16 – 10, 2.83 ERA), both really good pitchers.
This is a rain delayed game and, as bad as MLB wants to get it in so it doesn’t throw off the rest of the Playoff schedule, the forecast is for more rain than yesterday when they called it. We shall see.
