Round of 32 Day 1

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament 2011

Well tonight we get to focus our undivided attention on the women and high time too.  The ‘Sweet’ Sixteen on the men’s side is not so much about who you’re rooting for as who you hate less.

But I digress.

Tonight and tomorrow they’re still running the quad format with Tip Off times of 7 and 9:30 pm on ESPN2.

Round of 32 Day 2

It may seem like there were a lot of upsets yesterday, but really not so much.  Outside of Pittsburg every single seeded team won.

Keep that in mind as you listen to the gas bags bloviate.  The only group of “so called” journalists even more captured by cronyism, access, ignorance, and laziness than our DC Villager Idiots are sports reporters, a bunch of brain damaged ex-jocks trading on their faded fame and wannabees with even less talent than that.

Did I mention I’m rooting for Illinois?

Round of 64 Day 2

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament 2011

Well, I wasn’t entirely happy with yesterday’s Women’s Master Schedule Bracket table so I’m re doing it.  The problem is the column widths get automatically adjusted on you unless you dump all your data into one big list.

Oh, you want Yesterday’s Results not some boring HTML lecture.

Dad (who watched the whole thing, but wasn’t trying to live blog) tells me it was much more exciting than the men’s action and with 4 upsets it was a little more unpredictable than their first day though not I suspect than the first day of The Round of 32 which saw mighty Pittsburg, the pride of The Big East, fall along with some other sentmental favorites.

What will the future bring?  I’m glad you asked.

As it turns out The Round of 32 on the lady’s side is being played Monday and Tuesday while the men are resting (isn’t that just like them) so there will be none of that for the wicked (meaning me).

If you like a more traditional bracket try this NCAA one, they also have a TV schedule.

Lady Huskies Tip Off at noon against the Hartford Hawks.  I’ve seen some Hawk games courtesy of a friend who’s tight with the program and has season tickets.  It’s too bad they didn’t get an easier draw because they’re actually a much better team than they will seem today.

Round of 32 Day 1

It seems longer than it is.  Only 8 games today and 8 tomorrow.  I mentioned yesterday that we’ll be losing one of our Cinderellas today for sure.  Of course one will advance for sure too.

Yesterday afternoon we added Florida State and last night another 3 (though a 9 over an 8 hardly counts), but the ones I was most rooting for, Long Island and Boston University, didn’t come through.  At least the announcers made a pretense of rooting for Long Island.  The Kansas shills on TBS celebrated their bias with a shamelessness that would make the Yankees blush.

Fuck you assholes!  I hope Kansas goes down in flames as soon as possible.  The more humiliating the defeat the better.

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament 2011

Round of 64

The reason I like the ladies better than the men is the same reason I like the men better than the pros.  I like fundamentals, ball handling, and zone defense.  Dunks are showboating and should be outlawed.

The ladies get the old school treatment, there’s a package of 4 games in each time period and the studio will switch between them for you.  This is actually a relief for your remote finger because you’ll not miss any pivotal plays and changes in momentum just because you’re stuck watching a blow out with no idea what’s happening elsewhere.  Games are available on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com today with ESPN itself added tomorrow.

The research for this is just as complete as for the men’s Master Schedule Bracket, it’s just arranged slightly differently because there’s not the same bewildering array of Networks and Tip Off times.  Because of the more viewer friendly format I’ll not attempt the real time tracking I have with the men (which is a drag and a drain anyway).

My Women’s Master Schedule Bracket is below the fold, good through Sunday.  Tomorrow I’ll report today’s results.  If you like a more traditional bracket try this NCAA one, they also have a TV schedule.

I’ll be very surprised if the Lady Huskies don’t win it all, but they did lose to Stamford so anything is possible.

Round of 64 Day 2 Evening

Maybe Boston University will shock Kansas but I somehow doubt it.  Other than that I’m just killing time until Syracuse tips off at 10 pm.

Go Orange.

This afternoon CBS let Barack’s little Libya speech crush the end of an exciting Texas/Oakland finish and the begining of the Villanova/George Mason game.  Must not have been part of his bracket.  Thanks for nothing you elite failures.

Round of 64 Day 2 Afternoon

I’m not going to be paying as much attention to the games today because I need the time to set up tomorrow’s master schedule and check out what’s happening on the lady’s side.

Some observations on yesterday’s action-

There are only 3 upsets so far, Moorehead, Richmond, and Gonzaga (which always seems to be a Cinderella).  Since Morehead and Richmond face off tomorrow, depending on what happens today those Cinderella brackets are looking pretty busted.

Princeton and Michigan State played tough and deserve some credit for that.  UConn had a larger margin than Florida (by 1) and played a higher seed.  In your face Armando.

The Round of 64  has been, well…, frantic, The Round of 32 seems much more relaxed.  While coverage starts at 12:15 pm and final Tip Off (Connecticut/Cincinnati) is at 9:55 pm, you’ll only be flipping channels in Prime Time.

Of this group of games the only one I’m moderately interested in is Michigan because of my Big Chill connection.  For the most part you’ll have to make your own fun.  (Update: On closer examination I must admit some affection for the Villanova Ballhogs because of their prominent mention in Bored of the Rings.

Round of 64 Day 1 Evening

It seems I’ll have to update the late afternoon games on a rolling basis.  In case you haven’t noticed this is a lot of work.

The two upsets so far are Morehead over Louisville and Richmond over Vanderbilt.  Princeton played tough.

Of the Evening games in the first group of 4  I’ll be watching Connecticut v. Bucknell (sorry Armando, no ‘Gators).  Realistically Connecticut (the cheaters) should crush them like bugs.

In the second group I’m rooting for Michigan State (who had a puzzling and terrible year) against UCLA and St. John’s (I don’t understand why they’re so highly seeded either) aganst Gonzaga (despite their cool name).

Yes, yes I am that shallow.  Wait until I start picking teams based on their colors.

Check out who the winners are playing next at CBS Sports.

Round of 64 Day 1 Afternoon

The commentators last night were dividing the day into 4 groups of 4 and that makes a certain amount of sense.  I’m posting Afternoon and Evening editions so there are 2 groups of 4 in each piece.  I don’t have eight eyes like a spider or 4 TVs so I’ll generally be concentrating on 1 game in each group with sporadic updates on other contests.

Then there are errands to run and my beauty sleep.

In the first group of 4 games the one I’m most interested in is West Virginia v. Clemson.  Clemson looked dominating against Alabama-Birmingham and West Virginia is one of the toughest teams in The Big East, but streaky.  I have no idea about the individual matchups (I’m not that into it).

As always feel free to contribute your commentary about any game.

In the late Afternoon group Pittsburg just crushed in The Big East regular season and I expect they’ll do the same to UNC Asheville.

This all makes much more sense if you take a look at my Master Bracket Schedule for the Round of 68.  For a more traditional bracket try CBS Sports.

This will all make much more sense if you’ve already read my NCAA Basketball Tournament 2011 article which contains my Master Bracket Schedule for the round of 68.

Tomorrow and Friday are crazy days.  Coverage from 12:15 pm to midnight (without overtimes).

I uhh… might choose to nap through some of that and survey the carnage later.  Feel free to contribute your own observations, I don’t bite though I might call you a nasty name or two.

The natural place to split is at the 4:40 pm game so I’ll be running in two halves- one posted at 11:30ish and one at 6:30ish.

The format is going to change too.  I’m going to run two tables, Yesterday’s Results and Current Matchups so I’m only going to be foreshadowing whatever I’m covering now.  It’s probably possible to do it 36 hours ahead, but for sure it’s too much stinking work.
